I’m a stoneware potter who works on the wheel, alongside press moulding and carving. I love to contrast energetic scratchy surfaces with formal body shapes, using techniques like inlay and sgraffito. Everything I make must function well, be durable and comfortable to hold.

My business is based in Derbyshire where I aim to continue the tradition of functional pottery. We also have an abundance of natural clays and rocks here.

I make colours and surfaces from the most common metals the earth’s crust provides. Too many products use rare, finite materials extracted in unethical and unsustainable ways. I also like to incorporate recycled glass and rocks from defunct local quarries.

Themes in my work are rooted in my family history of academics, refugees and collectors. I also draw inspiration from my previous career in museums. I study the craft because I love historic pottery and want to maintain skills for posterity. I see pots as romantic ruins, as fossils of civilisation. They also function as memorials, anchors to lost people, things and memories.

I am interested in opportunities to make, sell and continue to learn locally, nationally and internationally.
